Join us for a conversation with distinguished activist, speaker, teacher, counselor, author, and Nobel Peace Prize-nominee (2022), Dr. Opal Lee, the “Grandmother of Juneteenth."  Youth Scholar Enydia Haynes will interview Dr. Opal Lee.  

"A voice of history with a message for the future,” Dr. Opal Lee famously began the The Opal’s Walk Campaign in 2016, at 89 years old, walking from Ft. Worth, Texas to Washington, DC, to make Juneteenth a national holiday. Thanks to supporters across the country, Dr. Lee was able to make her dream a reality for everyone.

Dr. Lee will be available for a brief photo op session with a pre-signed copy of Juneteenth, A Children's Story after the program. NO flash photography permitted. Books will be available for purchase at the event:

This program is co-hosted by the NAACP - Metuchen Edison and Piscataway Area Branch and is funded by a grant provided by the Board of Middlesex County Commissioners and the Middlesex County Division of Arts and History.
