Program Description

Event Details

This program will cover the fundamentals of light and how it interacts with matter! Participants will learn how astronomers use the properties of light to learn about stars and other objects 1,000,000,000,000,000 miles away and participate in a demonstration. At the end of the presentation, you will be invited to visit an observatory in the future where you can look through telescopes at distant stars, planets, and nebula.

Stephen Blazier is an astronomer at the Paul Robinson Observatory of the New Jersey Astronomical Association. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Tennessee and went on for graduate work at Stanford University in Computer Science. Today he collaborates with Lowell Observatory (where Pluto was discovered) to extend our understanding of the distant solar system.

Grant funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners through a grant award from the Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund.
