Metropolitan Museum of Art Salsa Consultant Jose Obando returns to Piscataway Library to  discuss the historical, social and cultural influences of the Maraca & Guiro: Two Taino instruments in the 21st Century.

The Tainos had a ceremony called the Areyto which utilized the maraca and the guiros among other instruments. The folkloric music of Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, along with salsa, cannot be performed without these two instruments. The Tainos were thought decimated but mitochondrial DNA tests have proven this theory wrong.
