Program Description

Event Details

This three-day program will integrate writing instruction and illuminating practices of self-discovery. Participants will be guided through different writing exercises, each serving to light the path toward self-expression. Topics of exploration will include personal/familial history, social-emotional learning strategies, and self-reflection, all centered within the metaphor of light. Attendees will work within these light metaphors across several forms of writing (poetry, autobiographical, storytelling, etc), learning the many ways they can convey who they are and who they are becoming.

Registration is required. Please sign up below.

This workshop will be presented by Valentina Zapata. Valentina graduated from The College of New Jersey in 2021 with her Bachelor of Science in Urban Elementary Education/i-Stem with a Concentration in Biology and a Minor in Creative Writing and then again in 2022 with her master's in teaching with ESL Specialization. She is currently a 5th Grade Bilingual teacher for the Trenton School District.

Grant funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners through a grant award from the Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund.
