Event Details
Join us this summer and explore coding, engineering, digital sound design, and web design through our Tech Buffet series at the library. Our TechGirlz facilitator will be teaching you a variety of different topics each Thursday from July 14 thru Aug. 11. Each week will be a new, fun and exciting topic for you to explore with our facilitator in building your digital skills!
Here are the workshop topics covered during the five week series :
- 7/14 | You Can Code : In this workshop, students will use Blockly, a drag and drop language to interface with the memory of the computer
- 7/21 | Unleash Your Inner DJ : This workshop guides students through the thrilling process of leaving their personal mark on a piece of popular music by utilizing professional remixing strategies. Students will use Audacity software to transform popular songs by applying elements of music theory and supplementing given material with additional beats, rhythms and embellished chord progressions
- 7/28 & 8/3 | Engineering and Roller Coasters - In this workshop, students will learn to think and design like an engineer by utilizing the engineering process to design a roller coaster using pipe insulation, marbles, and objects within the room. Computer simulation programs will aid in finding different ways roller coasters can be designed, taking into account variables like height, velocity, gravity, and the roller coaster path.
- 8/11 | Designing Mobile Apps : Students will work in teams to design a mobile app. They will select an app idea, develop a prototype, and present their final product to the class. Knowledge of design thinking is helpful.
Note : This program series is open to those entering grades 6-8 in September. By registering for this workshop series you are registering to attend all 5 workshops sessions.
